Shabd Jod: a 5-letter word race with friends, in English and Hinglish

Shabd Jod

You know Wordle: guess the five-letter word in six tries, with green, yellow and grey telling you how close you are. Shabd Jod turns it into a race. Everyone in the room gets the same hidden word at the same time, and a live board shows everyone's coloured rows, but never their letters.

So you can see your cousin got two greens on the first try, and you panic. The word can be English or Hinglish in Roman script, like dosti, khana or aankh. Fewer guesses and a faster finish score more. One word, about three minutes, and a lot of "arre, yeh shabd hai hi nahi".

Kya chahiye: Just phones. Everyone types on their own screen.

Rules: kaise khelte hain

Pick the word pool

At the start the host has 15 seconds to pick Angrezi, Hinglish or Mix (the default), then taps Shuru or lets the timer run out. After a 3, 2, 1 countdown, the same hidden word is set for everyone.

Guess the word

You have 6 guesses and 150 seconds. Each guess must be a real five-letter word from the game's list, English or common Hinglish. If it isn't, you see "Yeh shabd nahi mila" and it doesn't count as a guess. Hard mode is off, so you can guess anything valid.

Read the colours

  • Green: right letter, right place.
  • Yellow: the letter is in the word, but somewhere else.
  • Grey: the letter isn't in the word.

Repeated letters follow normal 5-letter word game marking. Greens are counted first, then yellows only up to how many times that letter is left in the word.

The race board

Below your grid is a strip with everyone else's mini grid, colours only, never letters. You can see who is close and who has solved it, but not what they typed. The round ends when time runs out or when everyone has solved or used all 6 guesses.

Reveal

At the end the word shows with a short meaning line, like "dosti: yaari, sabse pakka rishta", plus everyone's full grid with letters and the points.

Points kaise milte hain

Solving in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 guesses gives 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 or 10 points. The first three to solve also get a speed bonus of 15, 10 and 5, going by when the server received their winning guess. Not solved is 0. Ties stand, and scores carry across games in the room.

Jeetne ke tips

  • Open with a word full of common vowels. Hinglish words love a, aa and i.
  • Think in both languages. A pattern like _ _ aa _ could be English or Hinglish.
  • Watch the board, but don't panic. Colours tell you speed, not the word.
  • Use yellows. Move that letter to a new spot on the next guess.
