Chain Kahani: the chain story game, one line each

Chain KahaniStory chainEk line ki kahani

Remember the school game where a paper went round the class, everyone added a line and folded it over? Chain Kahani is that, on phones. The app gives an opening line, like "Sharma ji ka beta pehli baar exam mein fail hua, aur ghar pahunchte hi...", and players take turns adding one line each. The catch: you only ever see the line right before yours, never the story so far.

When everyone has written, the full story is read out, one line at a time, and it never makes sense. That's the fun. Then everyone votes for the best line. It's a chain story game for 3 to 10 people, about seven minutes, and it works as well at a sleepover as on a late-night call.

Kya chahiye: Just phones. The app passes the lines around and keeps them hidden.

Rules: kaise khelte hain

Set up

The host chooses 1 chakkar (everyone writes once) or 2 chakkar (everyone writes twice). The app draws an opening line and picks a random writing order, so the host doesn't always go first.

Write your line

On your turn you see only the previous line, or the opener if you're first. You have 45 seconds to add one line of 3 to 120 characters. Everyone else sees only whose turn it is and how many lines are done.

Lines are checked for abuse, and a blocked line asks you to write it cleaner. Miss your turn and the story gets "... (yahan koi so gaya)", and the next writer sees the line before that.

Read the story

Once all lines are in, the host taps Aage to reveal the story one line at a time, and reads it out: out loud in the room, or on voice chat. There's a timer of 30 seconds plus 4 seconds per line, so the story moves on even if the host is laughing too hard. The host can hide any line that crosses a line.

Vote for the best line

Everyone gets 30 seconds to vote for one line. Lines are shown without names, you can't vote for your own, and hidden lines can't get votes. You can change your vote until time is up. Even with 2 chakkar, each person has one vote.

Result

The full story shows with authors and vote counts, and the points.

Points kaise milte hain

Every line you write earns 5 points. Every vote your line gets earns 10. The line with the most votes gets a 10-point bonus, and if lines tie for most votes, each tied author gets it. If nobody votes, there's no bonus. Missed and hidden lines score nothing. Scores carry across games in the room.

Jeetne ke tips

  • Take the previous line seriously, then twist it. The best lines follow on and derail at the same time.
  • End your line mid-thought, like the opener does. The next writer will thank you.
  • Keep it short. A tight line reads out better.
  • Host: read slowly and with feeling. Half the laughs come from the reading.

Ghar wale rules aur variants

Folded paper (traditional)

At school the paper was folded so only the last line showed. Chain Kahani does the same thing on screen, and keeps it hidden for you.

Chain Kahani online kaise khelein

Make a room, pick Chain Kahani and share the link on WhatsApp, or show the QR code to people in the same room. Friends without the app join from the browser link with no login. In Saath mode the host reads the story out loud to the room. In Door mode the host reads it over the voice chat inside the game, which has mic and speaker buttons, and nothing is recorded. If someone's internet drops, their seat is held. It's free with no ads.

Sawaal jawaab

How do you play a chain story game online?

In Chain Kahani, each player adds one line to a story while seeing only the line before theirs. When everyone has written, the full story is revealed and read out, and everyone votes for the best line.

How many people do you need for Chain Kahani?

3 to 10 players. With 2 chakkar, everyone writes twice and the story gets twice as long.

Can I see the whole story while writing?

No. You only see the line right before yours. Nobody sees the full story until the reading.

What if someone writes something rude?

Lines are checked for abuse before they go in, and the host can hide any line during the reading or the vote. A hidden line gets no votes and no points.
