Undercover is the sneakier cousin of Kaun Hai Nakli. Most players get one word, say Chai. The undercover gets a similar word, Coffee, and here is the twist: they have no idea they are the odd one. Their screen looks exactly like everyone else's.
So everyone gives clues, everyone gets suspicious, and slowly someone realises their word is slightly off. The group votes one player out at a time until either the civilians find every undercover, or the undercovers survive long enough to win.
The Undercover word game in Mandli is for 4 to 10 players and runs about 10 minutes. With 7 or more, the host can also add Mr White, who gets no word at all and knows it.
Kya chahiye: Just phones. The app deals the word pairs, runs the turns and counts every vote.
Rules: kaise khelte hain
Teams
With 4 to 6 players there is 1 undercover. With 7 to 10 there are 2. Everyone else is a civilian. If the host turned on Mr White and there are 7 or more players, one player becomes Mr White.
The word pair comes from Mandli's bank of desi pairs, like Samosa and Kachori, Goa and Kerala, or Pen and Highlighter. Which word goes to the civilians is random every game.
See your word
Hold your phone to see your word for 10 seconds. Civilians and undercovers see the same card, just a different word, so you cannot tell which team you are on. Mr White sees "Tum Mr White ho" and no word. Only Mr White knows Mr White is in the game.
Clues
In turn order, each player still in the game types a clue of up to 2 words and 24 letters. You have 30 seconds. The app blocks a clue that gives away your own word. Mr White never goes first in the first round of clues.
Talk and vote
Then there are 90 seconds to talk, which end early if everyone taps Ready. After that, 30 seconds to vote for one player, not yourself. You see who has voted, not for whom.
- The most votes goes out.
- A tie goes to a 20 second runoff between the tied players, who cannot vote in it.
- A tie again, or no votes, means nobody goes this time.
Who went out
The app shows who went out and their team: civilian, undercover or Mr White. It never shows their word. Players who are out stay and watch, and their mic goes off.
If Mr White is voted out, he gets 20 seconds to type the civilians' word. Right, and he wins alone.
Winning
After each vote the app checks:
- Civilians win when every undercover and Mr White is out.
- Undercovers (with Mr White) win when they are as many as the civilians left.
- Mr White wins alone with a correct guess.
The game has as many rounds of clues as there were players at the start. If nobody has won by then, the undercovers win.
Points kaise milte hain
When the civilians win, every civilian gets 2 points, whether they are still in or already out. When the undercovers win, every undercover and Mr White gets 4 points. If Mr White guesses the word after being voted out, he alone gets 6 points and the game ends. If the last undercover leaves the room, the game is void and nobody scores.
Jeetne ke tips
- In the first round, keep your clue a little general. You do not know yet if you are the undercover.
- If the other clues feel slightly off from your word, you might be the undercover. Start blending in with their clues.
- As a civilian, a clue that fits both words of a pair is safe but not helpful. Try for one that fits only yours.
- Mr White should listen to every clue before speaking up in the discussion.
- Voting out a civilian early is costly. With 2 undercovers, each wrong vote brings them closer to winning.
Ghar wale rules aur variants
The simpler version: the odd one out gets no word and knows it, and there is only one vote. Good for 3 players and quick rounds.
Mr White is optional. The host turns him on in the lobby, and he only appears with 7 or more players.
At home people say clues out loud. In Mandli clues are typed so the app can block give-away words.
Undercover online kaise khelein
Create a room in Mandli and share the link on WhatsApp, or show the QR code to friends sitting with you. People without the app join from the browser link. No login, just a name and a colour. Saath mode is for playing together in one room, talking out loud. Door mode is for playing remotely, with voice chat inside the game, mic and speaker buttons, and nothing recorded. The host can switch Mr White on in the lobby. If someone's internet drops, their seat is held. Points carry across games in the room, and Ek aur round deals a new word pair. It is free and has no ads.
Sawaal jawaab
How do you play the Undercover word game?
Most players get one word and the undercover gets a similar one. Everyone gives short clues, talks and votes one player out each round. Civilians win by finding every undercover, and the undercovers win by surviving until they match the civilians in number.
Who is Mr White in Undercover?
Mr White gets no word and knows it. In Mandli he can be added with 7 or more players. If he is voted out, he can still win by guessing the civilians' word.
Does the undercover know they are the undercover?
No. Their card looks exactly like a civilian's, with only the word different. They have to figure it out from the other clues.
What is the difference between Undercover and Kaun Hai Nakli?
In Kaun Hai Nakli the imposter knows they have no word and there is one vote. In Undercover the odd one out has a similar word, does not know it, and the game has several vote rounds.
How many players do you need for Undercover?
At least 4 and up to 10. Mr White needs 7 or more.
