Reaction Race: a reaction time game to play with friends

Reaction Racereaction time testreflex gamefastest finger game

Reaction Race answers the oldest question in any group: whose finger is fastest? The screen stays dark, everyone waits, and the moment it turns haldi yellow you tap. Tap too early and it's a foul. Eight quick mini-rounds and about two minutes later, you know who the real champion is.

It's not just tapping. Some mini-rounds ask you to type 'Mandli' as fast as you can, and some show a colour word painted in a different colour, where you have to tap the ink, not the word. It sounds easy until you try it.

Mandli is points only. No money, no ads, no coins.

Kya chahiye: Just phones. Each phone measures your own reaction time.

Rules: kaise khelte hain

Three kinds of mini-round

A round has 8 mini-rounds in a random order: 4 Haldi, 2 typing and 2 Rang pehchano.

  • Haldi: the screen turns yellow. Tap anywhere as fast as you can.
  • 'Mandli' likho: type the word mandli as fast as you can.
  • Rang pehchano: a colour word (Laal, Hara, Neela or Peela) is shown in a different ink colour. Tap the ink colour, not the word.

Ready, wait, go

Each mini-round shows its kind and a 'Taiyaar?' countdown for 3 seconds. Then the screen stays dark for a random 1.5 to 5 seconds. Then it goes, and you have 3 seconds to answer. The mini-round ends early once everyone has answered.

Fouls and misses

  • Tapping before the go signal is a foul.
  • Any time under 80 milliseconds is too fast for a human and also counts as a foul.
  • Tapping the wrong colour in Rang pehchano counts like a foul.
  • Typing the wrong word, or taking longer than 3 seconds, is a miss: no points, no penalty.
  • Switching away from the app during a mini-round is a miss.

Fair timing

Your time is measured on your own phone, from the moment your screen changed to the moment you tapped, against a start time the server sets in advance. So a friend on slow 4G and a friend on fast wifi race on equal terms. The order is decided by reaction time, not by whose message arrived first.

Honest limits

We don't claim this is cheat-proof. A tampered app could report a fake time. For a points-only party game that's fine. If someone posts 3 or more times under 130 milliseconds in one round, the result screen marks their times with 'Kya baat hai' so the group can tease them.

Points kaise milte hain

In each mini-round, the fastest valid answer gets 5 points, second gets 3, third gets 2, and every other valid answer gets 1. A foul or wrong colour costs 1 point, but your total never goes below 0. Times within 5 milliseconds of each other count as a tie and get the same points. At the end you see the totals and the fastest time of the round.

Jeetne ke tips

  • Rest your thumb just above the screen, not on it. A light touch is faster.
  • The dark wait is random, so don't try to guess the timing. Wait for the yellow.
  • In Rang pehchano, look at the colour of the letters and ignore what the word says.
  • For the typing round, keep the keyboard ready and don't worry about capitals.
  • A foul costs a point, so a safe tap is better than a guessed one.

Solo reaction time tests (elsewhere)

Many sites give you a solo reaction time test. Reaction Race is built for groups instead: everyone races at the same moment and the room keeps score.

Fastest finger first (at home)

At parties people race to grab a spoon or ring a bell. That's the same idea, but here the phone does the judging and nobody argues.

Reaction Race online kaise khelein

Create a room in Mandli and share the link on WhatsApp, or show the QR code if you are in the same room. Friends without the app join from the browser link with a name and a colour, no login. In Saath mode the whole group races together in one room; in Door mode it works across cities, with voice chat built into the game (mic and speaker buttons, nothing recorded) so you can hear the screams. The host can pause between mini-rounds. Up to 20 people can race in one round, and the points carry over into the room's total.

Sawaal jawaab

What is a good reaction time?

It depends on the person and the phone. In Reaction Race, anything under 80 milliseconds is thrown out as impossible, and 3 or more times under 130 ms in one round gets a 'Kya baat hai' tag.

Does a slow internet connection make me lose?

No. Your time is measured on your own phone against a start time set in advance, so network delay doesn't change your reaction time.

Can I play a reaction time game with friends online?

Yes. Reaction Race in Mandli is free, has no ads and needs no login. 2 to 20 people can play together.

What happens if I tap too early?

It's a foul and costs 1 point for that mini-round. Your total never goes below 0.
