Remember drawing two grids at the back of a notebook and whispering 'D-7' across the class? Samundar Yudh is that game on your phone. It's Battleship-style: hide five ships on your sea, take turns calling cells, and hear 'Chhapaak!' for a miss, 'Dhamaka!' for a hit, or 'Doob gaya!' when a ship sinks.
Two people battle at a time while the rest of the group watches both shot boards and waits in a 'winner stays' queue. That makes it a good game for a big group on a call too.
Mandli is points only. There's no money, betting or coins.

The sea and the fleet
Each player has a 10x10 sea. Rows are A to J and columns are 1 to 10. Your fleet has five ships, 17 cells in all:
- Bada Jahaaz: 5 cells
- Yudhpot: 4 cells
- Pandubbi: 3 cells
- Gashti Naav: 3 cells
- Chhoti Naav: 2 cells
Placing your ships
Both players place their ships at the same time, with 60 seconds on the clock. Ships go in a straight line, across or down, fully inside the grid, and can't overlap. They are allowed to touch.
Drag and rotate them yourself, or tap 'Random lagao' for a random layout, then tap 'Taiyaar'. If time runs out before you place a fleet, Mandli places one for you at random.
Taking shots
A random player shoots first. On your turn, pick one cell you haven't called before. You get one shot per turn, hit or miss; there's no extra shot for a hit, which keeps games short.
- Chhapaak: a miss.
- Dhamaka: a hit, but it doesn't say which ship.
- Doob gaya!: every cell of a ship is hit, and the ship's name is shown.
You get 15 seconds per shot. If time runs out, Mandli fires at a random cell you haven't called yet.
Winning
The round ends the moment all 17 cells of one fleet are hit. Then both fleets are revealed to everyone, with hits and accuracy. If your opponent leaves during the battle, you win by walkover ('Maidaan chhod diya!'). If someone leaves while ships are still being placed, the round is cancelled with no points.
Winner stays
After a round, the winner stays in and the loser goes to the back of the queue, so the next person waiting gets a go. With nobody waiting, the same two play again. To keep things moving, a champion who wins 3 in a row also rotates out.
Points kaise milte hain
The winner gets 30 points for sinking the whole fleet (a walkover also gives 30). Both players get 1 point for every enemy cell they hit and 3 points for every ship they sink, so the loser keeps what they earned. Most rounds give the winner somewhere around 30 to 60, and the loser a smaller share.
Jeetne ke tips
- Don't bunch your ships in one corner; a single lucky hit then finds all of them.
- After a Dhamaka, try the four cells around it to find which way the ship runs.
- Early on, shoot in a checkerboard pattern. The smallest ship is 2 cells, so you can't miss it completely.
- Remember which ships have sunk. If only the Bada Jahaaz is left, you need a straight gap of 5 cells.
- Watchers can see both shot boards but never the ships, so no one can leak a position on voice.
Ghar wale rules aur variants
Many people play that a hit earns another shot. In Samundar Yudh it's always one shot per turn.
In the salvo style, you fire several shots each turn. Mandli doesn't have salvo mode; it's one shot at a time.
Some players don't allow ships to touch each other. In Samundar Yudh touching is fine, only overlapping is not.

Create a room and share the link on WhatsApp, or show the QR code to people next to you. Friends without the app join from the browser link with a name and a colour, no login. In Saath mode everyone sits together and the watchers can cheer out loud; in Door mode, friends in different cities use the voice chat built into the game (mic and speaker buttons, nothing recorded). A room can hold up to 50 people: two play and the rest watch the shot boards and wait in the queue. Points carry over if you switch to another game.
