Gaana Pehchano: guess the Bollywood song from a clue

Gaana PehchanoGuess the songSong pehchano

"Dil Se.., 1998. Hero and a dancer lead a troupe on the roof of a moving train." If a song is already playing in your head, you'd do well at Gaana Pehchano. It's a guess the song game for Bollywood lovers where the clue is the film, the year and one line about the scene, and you race to type the song's title.

There's no audio and no lyrics, so it works in a quiet office, on a noisy train and on a call where half the mics are bad. Eight songs a round, about three minutes, and the first right answer takes the most points. Expect a lot of humming under the breath.

Kya chahiye: Just phones and a filmy memory. No audio needed.

Rules: kaise khelte hain

Pick the daur

In the lobby the host picks the era, Sab, Purane gaane (before 2000) or Naye gaane (2000 onwards), and a level: Sab, Aasaan, Mast or Mushkil. A round is 8 songs.

Read the clue, type the title

Each song gets 25 seconds. The clue shows the film, the year and a one-line scene written by us. Type the song's title and send it. You can try as many times as you like, and wrong guesses cost nothing.

  • Common alternate titles and spellings are accepted.
  • Small typos are allowed on longer titles: one from 8 letters, two from 16. Short titles must be exact.
  • Nobody else sees your wrong guesses. They only see that you got it and your rank.

The hint at 12 seconds

If you're stuck, a hint appears at 12 seconds: the first letter of each word in the title, with the rest blanked out, for up to the first three words. It helps, but a correct answer after the hint is worth half.

Pass and skip

Don't know it at all? Tap Pass. The song moves on early once everyone has either got it or passed. The host can also skip a song, which moves straight to the answer with no points for anyone.

Reveal and result

For 5 seconds you see the title, the film and year, and the order people got it in. After 8 songs comes the leaderboard.

Points kaise milte hain

The first correct answer gets 10 points, the second 8, the third 6, and anyone after that 4. If you answer after the hint shows, you get half of that, rounded up. Wrong guesses score 0 with no penalty. Order is decided by when the server receives each answer. Ties on total stand, and scores carry across games in the room.

Jeetne ke tips

  • Type the first few words of the title. Many songs are known by their opening words.
  • Hum the song in your head from the scene, then type what you hear.
  • Guess before 12 seconds if you can. After the hint, points halve.
  • Don't worry about spelling on long titles; a typo or two is fine.
