3 2 5 card game (Teen Do Paanch): rules and how to play

3 2 53-2-5Teen Do PaanchDo Teen Paanch2 3 5 card game

Teen Do Paanch is the three-player trick game from every train journey and hostel room. Each hand one player has to make 5 tricks, one has to make 3, and one only 2. Whoever makes more than their target gets to pull good cards out of the hand of whoever fell short next time. That little revenge is what makes the 3 2 5 card game so much fun.

Below are the full rules as Mandli plays them: the 30-card deck, the targets, choosing hukum, and the pull (kheenchna). Numbers and timers on this page come straight from our game.

Mandli is points only. There is no money, betting or coins anywhere in the app.

Kya chahiye: Just phones. The app builds the 30-card deck, deals, tracks targets and handles every pull.

Rules: kaise khelte hain

The 30-card deck

Take one 52-card deck and keep only 30 cards:

  • Paan (hearts) and Hukum (spades): A down to 7, 8 cards each.
  • Eent (diamonds) and Chidi (clubs): A down to 8, 7 cards each.

Card order from high to low is A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7. Each player gets 10 cards, so every hand has exactly 10 tricks.

Targets: 5, 3 and 2

Every hand, the three seats have targets that add up to 10:

  • The player after the dealer must make 5 tricks.
  • The next player must make 3.
  • The dealer must make 2.

The dealer moves one seat clockwise each hand, so the targets rotate. In a 9-hand match, everyone gets the 5, the 3 and the 2 three times each.

Dealing and choosing hukum

Everyone gets 5 cards first. The 5-trick player looks at those 5 and picks the hukum (trump) suit. They have 15 seconds; if time runs out, Mandli picks the suit they hold most of (a tie goes to the suit with the higher top card).

Then everyone gets 5 more cards, and the hukum is shown to the whole table.

Pulling cards (kheenchna)

From the second hand on, the last hand's results matter. If you made more tricks than your target, you are owed one pull for each extra trick from whoever fell short.

One pull works like this:

  • You name a suit.
  • The other player's highest card of that suit moves to you automatically.
  • You give back any one card you choose (it can even be the same card).
  • If they have none of that suit, the pull is wasted and the log says so.

Pulls happen after the deal and before the first trick. Only the two players in the swap see which cards moved; the third player sees only the suit. If you run out of time (20 seconds), Mandli names hukum for you and gives back your lowest non-hukum card.

Example: last hand A made 6 of 5 (+1), B made 3 of 3, C made 1 of 2 (-1). This hand, A pulls once from C.

Playing the tricks

The 5-trick player leads the first trick. After that, whoever wins a trick leads the next.

  • Follow the led suit if you can.
  • If you can't, play any card, hukum or not.
  • The highest hukum wins the trick. If no hukum was played, the highest card of the led suit wins.

You get 20 seconds per card. On timeout Mandli plays your lowest legal card, and it avoids wasting hukum when you are void.

End of the match

After the last hand, the player with the highest total wins the match. The host can choose 3, 6 or 9 hands before starting; 9 is the default and gives everyone a fair share of each target.

Points kaise milte hain

Each trick you win is worth 2 points. Making your target (tricks equal to or more than it) adds 10. Winning all 10 tricks in one hand adds 15 extra. After the final hand, the match winner gets 20 more; if two players tie for the top, both get it. Falling short of your target costs you nothing except the 10 bonus, but you will owe pulls next hand, which hurts more than it sounds.

Jeetne ke tips

  • As the 5-trick player, pick hukum from the suit where you hold high cards, not just the most cards.
  • When you pull, ask for a suit where you think the other player has an Ace or King.
  • Give back your weakest card, ideally one that won't win a trick for them.
  • The 2-trick player often plays spoiler. Making your 2 early and then helping block the 5 is a real strategy.
  • Count hukum. There are only 7 or 8 trump cards in a 30-card deck, so it's easy to track once they start falling.

Ghar wale rules aur variants

Calling hukum (traditional)

Tables differ on how many cards the 5-trick player sees before calling hukum. Mandli always shows them their first 5 cards.

Pull rules (at home)

House rules for pulling vary a lot. In Mandli the pull always takes the other player's highest card of the named suit, and you always give one card back.

Targets and deck (at home)

Some groups seat the targets differently or use a slightly different set of cards. Mandli uses the 30-card deck above and the 5, 3, 2 order starting after the dealer.

Teen Do Paanch online kaise khelein

Make a room in Mandli and share the link on WhatsApp, or show the QR code if you are together. Friends without the app can join from the browser link with just a name and a colour, no login. Play in Saath mode if you are in one room and talking out loud, or Door mode from different cities using the voice chat inside the game (mic and speaker buttons, nothing recorded). The host picks 3, 6 or 9 hands. If someone drops, a bot plays their seat and a watcher can take it over at the next hand. After a match, the lowest scorer goes to the back of the queue so others in the room get a turn.
